Meet Megan

Megan Harrington-Johnson

MANAGING PARTNER AND CO-FOUNDER

Megan is the co-founder and Managing Partner of HJW Attorneys, which she founded together with Richard Wands in 2018. Together Megan and Richard have built HJW into such a formidable firm that in 2021 it was recognized as The Best Boutique Law Firm of the Year in South Africa. Megan was also shortlisted for Partner of the Year (Africa) in 2023.

Megan began her career in 2010 at Schindlers Attorneys in Melrose Arch, where she was made the youngest partner in the history of the firm in 2015. For the first 7 years of her career, Megan focused primarily on Family and Child Law. By virtue of the environment in which she was working, Megan soon became a specialist in very complex, high-level, and intricate Divorce Matters with a particular commercial slant.

Whilst she is widely recognised as one of the most highly regarded child and family lawyers in South Africa, because of the complex nature of the matters that she deals with, Megan’s fields of specialisation have expanded to include commercial advice and commercial litigation. Many of her clients are high-profile individuals which has also rendered it necessary for her to practice in the fields of defamation and reputation management.

A brief Google search of Megan’s name will quickly reveal how her reputation speaks for itself. She is often called upon by various media and news outlets to provide legal input on current affairs.

Some of her career highlights include being named one of the Top 200 Young South Africans to Watch by the Mail and Guardian, as well as being recognised by the Gauteng Premiere for her contribution to community safety, through her educational legal consultancy, SafeSchool. The organisation runs in conjunction with HJW and provides legal advice to some of the top schools in the country.

Megan is the proud mom to two little girls, Harlow and Mackenzie (aka “Mighty Mack”), who was diagnosed with cancer in early 2021 at the age of 4 months. Mack has successfully undergone a Bone Marrow Transplant and is now cancer free. Through this experience, Megan has developed a high regard for medical practitioners and is a strong advocate for the need for Bone Marrow and Blood Donation, a cause now very close to her heart.

Megan loves extreme sports, such as open water swimming and mountain bike racing and also takes great pride in representing some of the country’s heroes in our various sporting fields.
